Borrow a Rowboat in Axmar - Gateway to Norrland's Archipelago

RV guests can borrow rowboats at Axmar Brygga.

In the summer of 2024, all RV guests can borrow their own rowboat for free at Axmar Bruk. It's entrepreneur Yngve Persson, who runs Axmar Brygga with one of Sweden's most popular RV spots, who has taken this initiative.

"We were early in seeing and understanding the needs of RV guests," Yngve explains. "We have now acquired two rowboats and if it's appreciated and becomes popular, we will consider buying some more. I grew up around here, and there's nothing as peaceful as heading out on the water in this beautiful and untouched archipelago when the weather is good." Earlier this year, the popular sea tavern opened a completely new service house with a washing machine, dish space, microwave, and a dedicated RV lounge inside the restaurant where they always offer comfort, community, and free coffee to all RV guests.

So those who book an RV spot at Axmarbrygga can now borrow a rowboat at no extra cost and row out into the beautiful untouched northern archipelago. In addition to the boat with oars, you obviously can also borrow a life jacket. Then just row out and enjoy the tranquility, the silence, the beautiful nature, and an amazing bird life. Just let the restaurant staff know when you want to take your turn, showing your booked RV spot with registration number and ID. It’s also good if you can estimate a time of 1, 2, or 4 hours. If there is no boat available immediately, you will be informed when a boat is expected to be available. "I want to take this opportunity to say that all our boat guests who have booked a harbor spot are of course welcome in the lounge and the service house as well," greets Yngve.

Some important points and tips to consider before heading out in the archipelago in a rowboat:

Safety First: Ensure you have the right safety equipment onboard, including life jackets, perhaps a sea chart or at least a functioning phone. Also, inform someone about your planned route and estimated return time.

Know Your Boat: Take time to familiarize yourself with the rowboat before you head out on the water. Practice rowing in calm water conditions and get comfortable with handling the oars, balancing the boat, and navigating.

Weather Conditions: Always check weather reports and avoid going out in bad weather. Keep an eye out for strong winds, high waves, or storms. Be aware that weather conditions can change quickly, so be prepared for any changes during your trip. Plan Your Route: Before you go, plan your route carefully and identify any hazards or obstacles along the way, such as rocks, shallows, or currents. Stick to areas where you are sure the boat can navigate without problems.

Respect for Other Boats: Be mindful of other boats, both sailboats and motorboats that may have difficulty seeing a small rowboat. Always give them the right of way and stay away from their travel paths.

Respect for Nature: The archipelago is often a protected area with sensitive ecosystems. Be careful not to disturb wildlife or destroy vegetation. Take all your trash back with you and leave no trace.

Emergency Measures: If you find yourself in an emergency situation, try to remain calm. Attempt to contact emergency services. Stay with the boat if possible and wait for help.

Training and Physical Fitness: Rowing in the archipelago can be physically demanding, especially if there is a headwind or currents. Make sure you are in good enough shape to handle the effort and take regular breaks to rest and stretch.

Respect Local Rules and Regulations: Make sure you are aware of and comply with any specific rules or restrictions applicable to rowing and fishing in the archipelago you are in.

Remember that safety is the most important factor. Have fun and enjoy your rowing experience, but be mindful and prepared.
